A Mini History Kellogg’s
Kellogg’s has a very odd beginning. Kellogg’s is known for cereal, and that’s exactly where they got their start. Before the industrial revolution, the American breakfast was a hardy meal, complete with eggs, ham, bacon, bread, hash browns…. Foods that would keep a farmer or laborer going throughout the day. But as the work force began to shift, so did the need for large morning meals. Queue Dr. John Harvey Kellogg. In 1976, the Doctor built a world-famous medical spa and resort known as Battle Creek Sanitarium. In this resort, Kellogg’s philosophy was “biologic living.” He focused on regular exercise, massage therapy, and drinking plenty of water. He also made sure the digestive health of his patients were on point, and even endorsed regular enemas to clear things out. Around 1877, he concocted a twice-baked mixture of flour, oats, and cornmeal smashed into small pieces. Over the next several years, the recipe would be experimented with and eventually corn flakes were born.
Today Kellogg’s is one of the largest food companies in North America and rated as one of the most valuable food brands worldwide. In 2021, net sales reached 14.2 billion dollars. Their brands include….
