Foreign Snacks!

Ready for some snacks you probably haven't ever tried?! Quest with us as we try out some salty snacks from China and Thailand.

Today’s episode is a little bit different than our usual line up. That is because we have five different salty snacks that came from either Thailand or China. None of us actually visited these places, but we did visit an apple farm/candy shop that carried gobs of foods from the US and around the world. So, sit back and get ready for some different flavors and experiences!

The History of Minnesota’s Largest Candy Store

So I don’t really have a traditional history for you this time around. I wasn’t sure where to go with the history to be honest, so I thought I would share with you about the place we found these foods.

About 3.5 hours north of here there is a magical place filled with candy, soda, and puzzles. This place is Minnesota’s Largest Candy Store. Also known as Jim’s Apple Farm, this crazy place is located in Jordan, Minnesota. It is a family owned business that carries all sorts of goodies. Hard-to-find nostalgic sweets, like candy cigarettes. Fresh baked pies and strudels, jams, jellies, pickles, meats, cheeses, so much soda - the world’s largest collection in fact. There are penny pinchers, larger than life superhero statues, the world’s largest puzzle, along with a huge selection of puzzles for purchase. The world’s largest porta-potties...  I mean, this place has it all. And that is where we headed on a day trip, and it did not disappoint.

A few things to note if you are going to visit Minnesota’s Largest Candy Store.

  • They only accept cash or check. There is an ATM on site, but I would suggest making sure you have cash upon arrival.

  • The parking lot is gravel. It is a big parking lot with cement sidewalks, but keep this in mind if you have trouble walking or you have a fancy car.

  • There is a lot to take in! Give yourself lots of time to explore the different foods and candies they have to offer. And give yourself extra extra time if you also want to look at all the puzzles, which are on the rafters, in every nook and cranny.

  • Bring a few pennies and some quarters if you want to get a pinched penny!

  • Grab a cart, you are going to need it.

  • The business is seasonal. They appear to be open from early May through Thanksgiving. Hours are 8:00 am - 7:00 pm.

  • Speaking of hours, I would suggest getting there early or being there a little bit later in the day. We went around 3:00 pm and it was packed! By the time we left, about an hour and a half later, it had cleared out quite a bit.
